Advocating for the Aging
Lindsey lobbying at the MN Capital
Last week, I had the opportunity to spend the day at the Capitol advocating for Minnesota’s aging population.
What continues to stand out is this: our state is facing a growing long-term care challenge, and we still have work to do to ensure we’re fully prepared to meet it.
In long-term care, these challenges aren’t theoretical. They show up every day, through staffing shortages, financial pressures, and the increasing needs of those we serve. It’s why continued conversation between state leaders and those working directly in this field is so important.
As part of those conversations, the Governor’s proposed budget includes efforts to address broader state financial priorities, including adjustments within long-term care and human services. This involves changes to reimbursement structures and other cost-management strategies. While these proposals are part of a larger plan to manage the state’s budget, they also reinforce how important it is that we continue working together to support a stable and sustainable long-term care system.
I also want to recognize and thank the legislators who are taking the time to listen, ask questions, and stay engaged in this work. That commitment makes a difference.
This is not a partisan issue—it’s something that touches all of us. The reality is simple, we are either caring for someone, know someone who needs care, or will one day need that care ourselves.
Our seniors, their families, and those who care for them deserve ongoing attention, collaboration, and thoughtful planning for the future.
This isn’t something on the horizon—it’s happening right now.
If this is something you care about, I encourage you to stay engaged. Reach out to your legislators, ask questions, and be part of the conversation. And if you’re looking for ways to get involved, I’m always happy to help connect you.
