Friends of the Good Shepherd

The St. John Lutheran Home Foundation exists for the benefit of our residents, their families, the staff, and St. John’s Circle of Care as a whole, in its continued effort to advance the mission and vision of St. John Lutheran Home. Through generous contributions, the Foundation has been able to purchase items to benefit both the residents and staff throughout the campus.  These items are both large and small from wheelchairs, and resident lifts, to electric beds and contributions towards the Chapel addition.   St. John Lutheran Home Foundation is a 501(c) (3) tax-exempt organization.

Legacy Giving Overview
We are frequently asked “What is Legacy Giving, and how does it work?” Legacy Giving, or charitable gift planning refers to the process of making a charitable gift of estate assets to one or more charities. It is a process that requires consideration and planning in light of the donor’s overall estate plan.

These gifts usually include legal documentation and often require the assistance of a qualified professional advisor or planner to complete. Because of the size and potential impact of such gifts, a donor should always consult with his/her professional advisor before completing the process.

Legacy gifts are usually, but not always, deferred, meaning they are arranged now and fulfilled later. For example, a person could include a provision in their will to make a bequest or gift to the St. John Lutheran Home Foundation. This arrangement would be a Legacy gift.

Legacy gifts can provide the donor with many benefits. The benefits can include an immediate charitable income tax deduction, even though the charity may not receive the gift until a future date; deferral or avoidance of capital gains taxes on gifts of appreciated securities; retained increased income to the donor and/or their family; possible assistance in asset diversification, and most importantly, support for the mission of St. John’s Circle of Care.

There are many different Legacy gift options, each of which must fit your individual circumstances. The goal is to find the option that is most advantageous and most significantly impacts your charitable giving goal, your family, and the causes you want to support. Please consider the St. John Lutheran Home Foundation in your estate planning.

General Giving
The St. John Lutheran Home Foundation welcomes any monetary gift.  The Foundation offers the option to give to a specific location or program on the campus, such as The Maples, or Grandkids/VIK, or simply to the general fund of the Foundation.  General Giving is a very important piece in  maintaining of the programs and services that St. John’s Circle of Care offers.  For more information, please feel free to contact us at 507-723-3200.

Here’s some of the comments we’ve received from donors:

I am proud to be affiliated with the St. John’s Circle of Care and Foundation. All employees and volunteers do God’s work each and every day! Thank you for your hard work, dedication, and sacrifice.

St. John Circle of Care is filled with compassion and care. A locally run facility with care from babies to 100+ that’s why I support SJLH. Keep up the great work.

St. John’s Circle of Care, if rated like hotels and resorts, I would give a 5 star rating. What a beautiful facility with the most kind, compassionate staff and volunteers.

St. John’s Circle of Care Facility is top rate. Not only with the facility itself, but also with the kind and compassionate staff. Thanks for all you do with the residents and the visitors to St. John’s.
